hey all,

still planing to gather on may 1st and shoot plates and film.  all are welcome.  steve from black art wood craft will attend as well as mike from artcraft chemicals.

Can you keep us updated on what will occur at the event as it shapes up Eddie?  Will Mike and Steve still be showing?  Is the sell/swap still on?  Will there be tuneage?  Revelry?  Fire?  Wabbits?

I've been thinking of driving the Magic Bus over and bringing along a bellowless 8x20 Korona & holders to sell along with a couple lenses to pay for gas for the trip.  Might also be time to let loose of that 20" Vitax.  I'll also bring that 5x7 Seroco Petzval and maybe a Rembrandt portrait lens and darktent to unload.

I might be after a Dallmeyer 2C if one shows up.

Joe

har har har!

thanks joe,

there will be deer, turkeys (not just you guys) and rabbits being pulled from hats! Frank Petronio will be coming as well....he is in charge of all the fire!

mike and steve are scheduled to show. maybe we can get a 50/50 raffle in on some chemical goodies....

yes, please bring some stuff to swap and sell. i will make arrangements for a tent and some tables. i was just not able to pull it off as grand as i had planned but i will try and include all the fun non-the-less. the more goodies that show will help to get some of the tire kickers to come on over......

i know of a 2C that will be there....not sure if it will be for sale but it will be available for play!

It is wet plate collodion day on May 1st. it is a day that all WPC people shoot a plate and post it on a website. we will be having a group effort to do this. we will also be shooting film and large format. i will have some models, food, and great local micro brew beer!

it will be worth the drive. i/we hope you (and all others) are able to make it. so far we have about 20-25 people waiting for the day to arrive.

there is 50 acres of forest to play in as well. i will be arranging local forays to nearby shooting destinations for those that want to shoot photos of something besides the models. we have 1600 era stone houses, bridges (BIG and small) rocks, mountains, barns, trees waterfalls and old trains to name a few of the awesome potential all within 15 mins drive.

Ah, dang...Frank is gonna be there? Still haven't met him although we talk pretty regularly...

If he's in charge of fire, make sure there is a bucket of water close by!

Tell him I said hello!

When you meet Frank.

You will be meeting a soft spoken gentlemen.
And when you meet Eddie ......
Eddie is the guy ,who will get up at dawn and drive  down  a dusty road, to look through a box of rusted nails  in search of camera and parts...

Sounds like a great time I will try and make it.

So, I awoke OK from surgery yesterday only to find the stitches covered in collodion!  Somehow seems appropriate.  :)

I had an umbilical hernia repair and am now looking forward to cavorting with the belly dancers at Eddie's gig in a couple weeks.  Things went well and I should be mended sufficiently to make the party.  I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

it is getting closer fast!

i ordered the beer!  see my priorities?  :)

i am looking into a tent (for SUN shade!  remember positive weather thoughts).  i will be talking with my "chef" on some food.

several "models" will be there.  a couple are "real" models and the others are regular folks that are willing to sit for us.  should be great.  lets remember to get a print or something to the sitters for their time.

looking forward to seeing everyone.

Boy, that Mohonk Mountain House surely is attractive!  For $160, it is probably worth staying.  Judging from its view, you can probably do a few plates too.  It is 265 miles from my place.  I missed your last gathering.  Still has the jasmine tea.  I plan to shoot all my way to mohonk on Friday, may have to sleep in my car in the parking lot  and then use my nose on Saturday to go to your barbecue stand:)

great.  please do.  you may have trouble sleeping in your car at mohonk....lots of climbers in the area so they are ion the look out.   if you need come to my place on friday.  plenty of forest or floor space!  maybe we will tap the keg on friday night!

if it is only 160 stay there it is one of the most beautiful places around.  they include food as well.

hello again,

i have invited my friends Dan Burkholder and his wife Jill Burkholder.  i am sorry to say Dan will be away on May 1st but i am happy to say Jill will be attending.  these two are an authority on digital negs and alt process printing.  you all should see there darkroom/computer room.  simply marvelous.

i have encouraged Jill to bring a few prints.  this would be a great opportunity to "pick her brain".  she has such wonderful images and is full of knowledge.

the day is shaping up nicely.  see you all there.

hey all,

1st let me remind everyone to BRING a few prints so others can see what you are doing.

just an update and an informal idea on a schedule.

i will do a wet plate demo at about 11am.  the wet plate set up will be available for people to play with all day but i will go over it and answer question then.

it is World Wet Plate Day as well, so at about 3:30pm or so i would like to have a  group photo of everyone to submit to the WWPD book that is made.  should be a great one.

there will be tables set up so people can buy, sell, and swap what they wish.  no set time.

BBQ food will be available all day and into the night.  when you are hungry get some food or fire up the grill and cook some.  grill master wanted!

i plan to have several raffles/chinese auctions throughout the day so late comers will get in on it as well.  lets say one at 1pm, 4pm, and around 7pm.

almost there.

And, there was even beer and Everclear being consumed.  LOL.

it is  beauty!  and do not worry.  we dripped a couple of drops of silver nitrate on it and a finger print of silver so it is "broke in" now.  you can see my thumb print very easily on the rear standard.....

har har har!

seriously,  it is a beauty.  steve was very adamant about NOT touching it!  it is in fine shape.

So it was Robert's camera! It was a real piece of art work!  The price is great considering the top craftsmanship.  Please post a few plates after you get it.  You challenge will probably be on shrinking you image from 15x15 to 600DPI here:)

Well I just finished up teaching large format photography at Hiram College. It was great having the freedom  to adjust the curriculum to include wet plate (tintypes and ambrotypes) and platinum printing, using film and glass negatives. So I'll be taking a trip to Rochester, N.Y. on the 28th to pick up the new camera that all of you saw at Eddie's place. I just received a picture of the new tripod and saddle that Steve is now making. Wait to you all get a look at the new tripods that are going to be offered from Blackart in the next few weeks. They are awesome looking. Robert
