Reminder: This weekend, May 1, is World Wetplate Day http://www.wetplateday.org/
, a day when people all over the world shoot wetplate collodion. It
started out small, to honor the inventor, and has grown each year.
Anyone who shoots a plate that day can post it to the website. In past years a print on demand book has also been published with everyone's plates. Get your fingers black this weekend! Thanks Geert-Jan for keeping the website looking great. |

I've wondered if the wwd should be changed your favorite plate of the year? It seems some are doing that anyway... Plus many fight rain, cold etc year after year. And many a great wet plat-er has a day job that day.
Did I miss something in the idea of this, or is it anything shot recently? or is it shot on this day? Or should that rule stay vague? Never the less, wonderful collection so far! I'm really like seeing the work from Mexico, Bravo to all! |

The idea is for there to be one day where everyone around the world shoots wetplates. Showing what you take on that day was a secondary, but fun part of World Wetplate Day. It's about camaraderie for the few, but ever growing number of wetplaters, since we all live in different locations. The emphasis was on simultaneously shooting plates, and knowing others everywere are with you in spirit.
Showing your "favorite plate" taken sometime in the year is better for other forums or events. It's World Wetplate day. |

May 1st, or as near as possible, is good:
* it's in honour of Archer, and it's when he died. That trumps pretty much everything. * for those of us in the north, there's finally enough light, but it's not so late in the year that our pals in the far southern hemisphere have lost the very last of the UV. * in many countries, it's a holiday weekend, for may day--another nice bit of solidarity! I really like the idea of as many of us as possible, all around the world, pouring a plate for Archer, and keeping the making alive, and sharing it. |

I personally would like that Saturday, I would not have to take vacation day that way.
