Topic: Signing The Book Posted: 22 October 2009 at 08:24 |
I would like to know if there's any interest in an idea I have. As I looked through the book, I thought it would be really nice to have the artists/photographers sign their image(s) and present the "signed" book to the Friends of Kensal Green (FoKG) as a gift next year. They would really appreciate something like this and they would keep it for visitors to look at, too. My suggestion is that we start at the beginning and pass this copy around the world for signatures. You would be free to do whatever you'd like (as far as "signing"/"writing") with your image(s). I suppose I can start it (duh!) and then send it to Alex, Alex to Garrett, Garrett to Lourdes, etc. etc. and Mark Z (Zman) would send it back to me (no worries, I have an American address). It would be nice to keep it in the same box - present it that way to FoKG. Do you think this possible? Feasible? "Doable"? Are we responsible enough to get it "signed" and passed on to the next person? If there isn't any interest in doing this, no worries. It's just an idea for a gift for the people helping us out to make this thing happen. Feedback please! |

Quinn - my suggestion would be to send the book around the Americas then Asia, Europe etc this would be faster and cheaper and probably safer. It should be easy to plan a circuit and for each individual to pm the next person on the list for their address in advance of getting the book in case they are away etc. I agree with Stefan too that if we could get the book signed up on one continent and handed over at Paris Foto that there is less chance of the book going missing as well as there being a good number of folk that could sign it. Great idea though.

Since this is a print on demand type of thing, why not have individual pages printed and send only the needed page (or pages) to the individual photographers for signing? When everything is returned then get it bound.
This would be a lot cheaper for postage, less of a risk for damage or loss, and certainly faster. You could even send several extra pages just in case there is a mistake, or better yet a second fully signed version for Quinn. After all his work on this, he deserves something. Or, have an auction and sell the extra book(s) for big $$$ It might be a good idea to standardize the type of signature pen. When you get the guy pressing hard with a ballpoint it sorta ruins the other side of the paper if you know what I mean. Just ideas.... keep them bouncing. |

Hi Guys, thanks for the ideas.
I'm completely out of time so if someone wants to arrange/manage this "Book Signing" they are more than welcome (Carl?). I'd be happy to start it and send it to Garrett, or whomever is next. If not, I understand.
Ron, that's a good idea, but there's noway to piece the book out like that. It's only a couple of dollars/euros/gbp/etc. to send the book on. |

Quinn I am happy to sort this and will spend some time later today to work out a route that doesn't have too many international trips to try and keep in in the best of condition and as fast as possible. Quinn is there a group email list for all those that contributed? Also are there folks close enough together that could arrange to meet and do a group signing? I also think that the idea of two books so that Quinn gets one is a sound idea and a small token of appreciation for his, Jeans & Summers efforts. The idea of enclosing a sharpie or similar pen is a good one too - and for those signing to be mindful of the image on the opposing page.
Action required: Group email list if one exists Two books and appropriate pen in package Is it possible to purchase a package that is secure and could be re-used A list of anyone close enough to do group signings |

Thanks Carl! Great ideas everyone - I'll get an email list together for you tomorrow.
Update: As of today (Oct 25, 2009), we've moved 42 books. That's $672 USD - great job! Keep it going! We can do this! |
